SKIPPER'S BIO

Hailing originally from Trois Riviere, Quebec...Skipper Claude Lacerte has spent most of his adult life skippering tall ships. After leaving the Canadian Navy in 1979, he built, converted, refurbished and otherwise constructed several tall ships of his own -- including two large square riggers -- both named "Belle Blonde" after his wife Pauline and their two daughters.

Claude lives in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Skipper Claude Lacerte

STATIA is a new vessel, launched only 15 years ago. She was described by her surveyor as a very strong and well designed steel sea boat. Her interior is spacious and nicely finished in bright mahogany. She can sleep a total of 12 persons by bunks -- and even more with cadets on deck.

Her skipper Claude Lacerte has spent most of his adult life skippering tall ships -- running cruises to Alaska, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Japan, and the Caribbean islands. He has extensive experience in navigation, pilotage, seamanship and celestial navigation.

Claude built the entire ship from a bare hull that he had purchased, welding the deck and wheelhouse himself. He also did all of the carpentry and beautiful finish work that you see inside on the deck and all around this gorgeous schooner.
